April 2024

My first Screen print in a long time, I was wanting to experiment with some layering so I hand drew the stencils and mono-screen printed the green back ground

Untitled

This is a 4.3m long painting that I made for my degree show. The idea behind this painting was based on was the process of experimentation and exploring the possiblities on acylic paint. The experiment was bundling up canvas into a large plastic bag and pouring in different quantities and thicknessess of watered down acrylic paint, which I then left to soak into the canvas. I also poured in acrylic paint that was almost the same consistency as it would be coming out the bottle to get a contrasting texture and colouration on the canvas.

Monstera

Since October 2023 I have have been exploring the use of scale, markmaking and texture. This painting with monstera leaves, a vase and charcoal marks are all early stages of me understanding how and what kinds of abstractions I want to follow and explore further.

Printing making and drawing

For me drawing and print making are a fundamental part of my practice. It informs all other aspects of my creativity, from working out what the scale of a work should be, to the materials and the process of which I will use them in.
The drawing materials that I tend to use are thick pencils or fineliners and very occasionally some form of pastels.
The types of Prints that I do vary depending on the subject matter that I am wanting to depict alongside the textures and the feelings that I am trying to portray in the print. The types of print that I tend to work in are lino prints (a form of relief printing) and intaglio printing (a form of etching). But most recently I have done some screen printing which I am going to pursue further.

Texture explorations

As a part of my exploration of paint and how it behaves when it is handled and manipulated in different ways to create different textures. These are 2 of the results

On these two boards of MDF I manipulated a combination of acrylic and oil paint to create a varying textures and surfaces. To add another dimension to these pieces I incorparated small fragments of tin foil alongside crushed charcoal
